Done.

http://scah.cdu.edu.au/2011/NMD201/s226596/salm_s226596_assignment/index.html
Check out the website.

I realise that there is an issue with very small spacing and I am pretty sure that it has to do with the layer and it's positioning. At least it has a smaller gap than the last photo I posted.

Super close now...

So I've fixed the last two problems including the broken template thing.

To fix that one must go to the insert > Layout objects > AP Div. Hey presto! It's fixed. Yay!

A link will be up shortly with the actual website.

So close...

That list of things to finish on the website is slowly disappearing. I figured out how to make thumbnails, a quick google search on how to make thumbnails in html showed me the way.

Here's the short tutorial that I used. http://www.htmlgoodies.com/tutorials/web_graphics/article.php/3480031/So-You-Want-A-Thumb-Nail-Image-Huh.htm

Fixed up all the file names into lower case. Which resulted me into changing all the links the long way, since most of them are in the only editable region.

I've place most things into the site folder which is the images, video and audio. Which once again required me to do things the long way round. All because of the editable region. I've tried to place most of the html files into the source file (I think this is the right place), but they did not work when I went to change the template so that all the links could update. Due to last part not working, I've placed all the files back to where they were before.

I haven't had the chance to attempt to fix the silly photo shop splice yet.

Still the troubles...

This screenshot should show all the trouble I have with Dreamweaver. All links work, but they do not sit on top of the photo shop splice background.

Decided to make at the last minute another button icon that will be used to link back to my Vimeo homepage. Here it is.

Now in the next couple hours to figure out how to make thumbnails of images, fix all my file names into lowercase, put things into site and source folders and finally figure out how to fix the breaking splice. Fun times, but hopefully it will all be done. Hopefully.

SiteMap and Buttons

Here is finally a Sitemap for my ePortfolio website (and hopefully it makes sense).  The Gallery pages all have a link to each other so that is why it may seem a bit messy on the diagram. The Contact page does have two outgoing links, one to the blog itself and one to my Deviantart page, where I have taken most of my Gallery pieces from.

Edit on Monday: I have since added a link on the contact page that will be outgoing to my Vimeo home page. This link can also be accessed from the film gallery.

These are the two icon buttons that I created in Photoshop to personalize the contact page instead of boring old blue links. Now viewers get to click two fancy buttons. Yay!

I am still having trouble with the splice thing that I mention last. I've just continued on and added all the content that I wanted to all the pages and hopefully it will get another look in the class time that will be available.
Jack and I look at it last week for about 45 minutes after class and could not get it to work properly. So we left it, so that I (or both of us) can look at it fresh for next week.

Headaches

Here's my lovely assignment in dream weaver so far. I'm having trouble with the editable region. If I open a html page that was already created from the template and start typing on the editable region my background image that was a splice from photo shop disappears.

I'm hoping to find a solution to this soon. Hopefully.

Cloudy

Today I give thee a first look at some website deigns (that will hopefully work) and a WIP that will uploaded to site as a part of the gallery.

This here is something that I've been working on in class within photoshop. Now I have to learn how to splice this to insert it into Dreamweaver.

This lovely picture is a WIP that will be completed as a part of CAI 102, Fridge Festival Project. However, it will also live on my portfolio site. I'm very happy with how this is turning out so far, as all of the fish as hand drawn into the computer with the help of my trusty Intuos4.

I think I might also add a photography section in my gallery. This photo of mine was taken on the Australia Day Ute Run, featuring my Dad's 1952 Chev ute.

So, all together on my Gallery page at this moment I think there will be three sub pages. Digital Art, Work In Progresses (WIPs) and Photography. There's a chance that another two or three that might be added such as Paper Scans, Videos and 3D Works.

Also, I have some followers now. Hello. : )

Dreamweaver.....

I've had a small amount of experience with Dreamweaver back in high school about Year 11, I think. Since then I've pretty much forgotten about what it is a part from that it utilizes HTML coding.

Now that I'm in University, it's more mind boggling then before. Not to mention I'm also trying to get my head around Flash Action scripting at the same time. I'm not sure which one is more confusing.

I've also started on the main Dreamweaver assignment, creating a website for myself last week as a part of the in-class exercise. I think I did alright on it so far, some parts just need to be drilled in a bit more like creating a template for all pages, then saving them all so that they update on each page. Very confusing or it might be one of those glitches.

I think I'm coping with what's left to do. Got to make some pretty images and things to fanci-fy (I know it's not a real word) the various pages.

It's due.

Here's a link to the ABC Pool website. http://pool.abc.net.au/media/quotation-stepha

21 August 2011

I returned on the weekend to finally finish the project. I spent about 3-4 hours in front of the computer reviewing all the footage I had found to ensure that I haven't missed any words that I would need. During this time I had also crated a soundtrack within Garage band.

By the end of the 4 hours I had found majority of the words and several others as well as adding all the titles in. So by tomorrows class I would have to add all the transitions, credits and the soundtrack into the final product.

15 August 2011

I spent a lot of this class working on the project itself and generally thought that by the day it was due it would not be completed. By the end of the class I had only about 7 snippets of film that would eventually be pieced together, no audio track or titles. I decided that it would be best of me to return on the weekend to finish it off.

Collecting the Films

My goal for this class was to catch up on one or two of the weekly assignments that needed to be worked on, since I was pretty much away for the first lesson and the following week (because of family commitments).
Another goal for the class was to start finding clips of people.

After a bit of catching up on the skills needed to complete the weekly assessments I set to work completing the first one, which was to implement cross dissolves and a fade to black cross dissolves. I found this to be quite easy to complete but it was enjoyable.

During this class I also found some great clips for the video editing assignment. On Vimeo I found some interviews and even a mini documentary which has a lot of different people on it. I'm really happy with what I have found. Now to look for some more.

Idea for Video Editing

So my original idea was to ask all my friends on various social networking sites to film themselves in front of a camera reciting a fairly long quote and edit them in a montage fashion (each of them would be saying a different word). However, Michael said no, you actually have to source the materials from sites like Vimeo and Youtube.

Looking back at this I could of probably could of asked my friends to upload it to their Youtube/ Vimeo accounts. There would be no challenge in that.

So the plan changed to actually sourcing the materials from Vimeo and Youtube without the aid of friends but still montage-ing the clips together to form the quote.

I'm hoping to find while trawling through the different sites and files to find some good clips which involve interviews with a different range of people. If I can't find any or many of these any clips, ones which just involve a singular person in front of the camera framed in a head shot or head to shoulders range.

First Day Woes

Already I have had my first timetabling confliction.
For the first day of the semester.
I had to miss the last two hours of the first class due to a 'compulsory' lecture for a compulsory unit.

I had learned in the first hour that our main video editing project would require the use of Final Cut Pro. As well, we could not use our footage but footage and materials sourced with a Creative Commons License.
I already have a pretty solid understanding as to what the Creative Commons License is and it's restrictions, because I am a member of an online art community that utilities this form of licensing as well as many others.

We were also asked during this class to get ideas ready to present next lesson as to what our video editing project could be. I have a small idea in my head already.
